Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-ryu (天真正伝香取神道流) is one of the oldest Japanese martial arts dating back almost 600 years. Katori Shinto Ryu (KSR) is a martial arts system transmitted from teacher to student since 1447 by Iizasa Choisai Ienao, the arts founder. The study of KSR consist of learning a system which includes: sword drawing techniques (Iaijutsu), swordsmanship (Kenjutsu), two swords (Ryotojutsu), short sword (Kodachijutsu), the spear (Sojutsu), the staff (Bojutsu), and the naginata (Naginatajutsu). Katori Shinto Ryu students will learn principles expressed through skills drills, techniques, and various weapons. The Shubukan trains under Tetsutaka Sugawara Sensei and affiliates with Sugawara Sogo Budo Institute.
