In addition to our regularly scheduled classes, the HMAC conducts regular two-hour women-only self-defense seminars. These seminars provide practical self-defense techniques and strategies that are quick and easy to learn, and which are effective regardless of strength or size. Participants practice the application of their new skills against mock attackers.

The next Women’s Self-Defense seminar is scheduled for Saturday, June 30, 2007 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm has been postponed from its June 2007 date (see this page for more info). Seminars are held at the HMAC (find us).
Keep in mind
- You must preregister for the seminar by
June 23to let us know you are coming. - The seminar fee is $55 per person, or $50 per person if you come as a group of 3 or more friends and/or family members.
- Women aged 16 or older; 16 - 18 year-olds require parental consent
- Wear comfortable clothing (also, we will be training on our mat, so bear in mind you can’t wear shoes)
- No previous experience necessary; all women are welcome!
What to expect from a seminar
Here’s a little of what you can expect if you attend a women’s self-defense seminar:
- Discussion on how to be aware of your surroundings and minimizing your likelihood of being targeted
- Defense against an aggressor coming up from behind you
- Defense against an aggressor who has taken hold of one or both arms
- Defense against an aggressor choking you
- Using your environment for protection and/or as weapons
- Full contact practice of techniques on padded aggressor
